The Conservation Commission was re-established within the City of Torrington by action from the City Council in November 2005. The first official meeting was held with all members in January 2006. The purpose of the Conservation Commission is to advise the Planning and Zoning Commission on the cultural and natural aspects of the Citys environment. The Committee reviews projects for matters pertaining to planning and design as they relate to the propertys location near other protected open space land, appropriateness for acquiring open space, and identify
natural or cultural features on the land that should be preserved or protected. The Commission reviews and makes written recommendations on all subdivision plans (greater than 4 lots).
The Conservation Commission also is responsible for maintaining the Open Space Inventory for the Planning & Zoning Commission and has begun preliminary work updating & expanding the Plan of Conservation & Developments Open Space section.
The Conservation Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Torrington City Hall (Room 324 unless posted otherwise).
