Press Release – Torrington Police Department
June 28, 2010 On June 17, 2010 the Torrington Police Department (TPD) Detective Division has submitted an application for federal assistance through a BJA FY 10 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) via Program Local Solicitation. The name of the Federal Agency is the Bureau of Justice Assistance where TPD is requesting to utilize approximately $15, 000.00 in grant funding to construct and implement a fully functional video and audio
recording interview room within the police department. In addition, the room will serve a dual function of a training area for re-certification for members of the department.
This room is located within the Detective Division and once equipped, will be offered to surrounding police departments for their use. The Torrington Police Department will be the only known department to have this type of interview room, which is being considered by legislatures to become mandatory in the next few years by all police departments.
Our hope is that our grant application will be accepted and pass approval so that TPD can implement the equipment needed to continue our successful prosecution of criminal cases while staying current with cutting edge technology.
