The Tax Collector's Office is responsible for the collection of payments for Real Estate taxes, Sewer Usage Fees, Personal Property taxes and Motor Vehicle taxes. The Tax Office takes great pride in the efficiency with which tax matters are handled. The office is responsible for thorough accounting of all records and funds administered. A courteous attitude is mandatory while upholding high standards of ethical conduct and operating in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.
The City of Torrington's October 1, 2016 Grand List mill rate is 45.75 mills for Real Estate and Personal Property bills. This means that for every $1,000 of assessment on Real Estate or Personal Property you will pay $45.75.
The mill rate for Motor Vehicle and Motor Vehicle Supplemental bills has not been set yet. These bills will NOT be billed in July 2017. Once the State budget has been finalized, the City will proceed with setting a due date for the motor vehicle bills and then they will be mailed. Per state statute, once the due date for the 2016 Grand List motor vehicle bills has been set, taxpayers will have 30 days to pay these bills without interest. If not paid in full by the set delinquent date, interest will accrue at 1.5% per month, with a minimum of $2, from the due date.
The WPCA has set the sewer usage fee for the fiscal year 2017-2018 as $250 per unit for Residential properties and $250 per 65,000 gallons for Commercial/Industrial properties.
