Ordinance Committee

A subcommittee of the City Council

Consisting of three members of the City Council & WPC Authority, and appointed by the Mayor, this subcommittee meets whenever a City Ordinance needs to be created, reconsidered, or repealed. When called to review an ordinance or proposed ordinance, the Ordinance Committee generally meets approximately 60 minutes before a regular City Council meeting.  Their meetings are open to the public.

The Ordinance Committee recommendations are forwarded to City Council, who, if in agreement, schedules a public hearing to solicit citizen input on the ordinance.  Once passed, the new ordinance, ordinance amendment, or repeal takes effect 30 days after being published in a local newspaper.
