The City of Torrington is proud to announce the 4th Annual Clean-Up the World Day. This City-wide (and river) cleanup will take place Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 9 am to noon.  Staging will be at the Toro Sports Complex located at 8 Perkins Street, Torrington. The City of Torrington’s Conservation Commission and Recreation Department have partnered up with Trout Unlimited and Torrington Family Kempo to support and organize this event.

NEW THIS YEAR – Trout unlimited will be giving fly fishing demonstration for people of all ages from 11am-1pm.    You do not have to participate in the clean up to come to the demonstration!

“Clean up the world” is a  worldwide environmental campaign.  The campaign’s flagship event is Clean Up the World Weekend which has been held on the 3rd weekend in September every year since 1993.   Each year an estimated 35 million people in over 130 countries participate in community-based activities that address local environmental issues. See website for further information on this campaign  .

Volunteers are needed to help clean up the along roadways and rivers throughout Torrington. During the annual Earth Day Clean in April volunteers filled a 30 yard dumpster with tires, bicycles, furniture, building debris, shopping carts and litter.   Due to overwhelming support from volunteers who are looking to take part in community and environmentally based events, we are planning this second clean-up, before the winter to help keep our City clean throughout the year.

This is a great event and will make a big difference in our community.  If you plan to participate, remember to dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes to walk distances in.  If you have an orange vest or neon colored shirt, please wear it so we can outfit as many people as possible with bright safe colors. Latex gloves and trash bags will be provided; however we encourage individuals to bring their own tools, work gloves, and water to this event.

Volunteer Lunch is provided for all who participate in the Clean Up

This is a rain or shine event!!!  Large groups are welcome to register ahead of time!
