For Immediate Release

TORRINGTON CT – May 30, 2018 – Mayor Carbone has announced that the City of Torrington will begin a partnership with Simple Recycling to bring free curbside recycling services for clothing and accessories.

Torrington residents will receive mailers with program information and two pink Simple Recycling bags.  The pink bags can be used for recycling clothing, shoes and accessories on your normal recycle pickup day.  Bags can be placed next to a residents blue recycling cart and a Simple Recycling truck will pick it up and leave replacement bags for future use.  Residents can also request additional bags by visiting www.simplerecycling.com or call 866-835-5068.

“I am very happy that we are able to offer this opportunity for increased recycling to our residents.  As we have recently started looking at the rising cost of solid waste disposal and ways we can increase recycling and lower operating costs to the city, residents were vocal in their desire to have more options available to them and I am pleased that we were able to help respond to their requests with this program” said Mayor Carbone.

The City of Torrington will receive $20 per ton of recyclables through the program and is expected to recycle 300-1000 tons per year.  In addition, the City will be saving $72 per ton for not disposing materials as solid waste.

There is no cost to the City of Torrington or to Torrington residents to participate in this program.  Torrington joins the towns of Harwinton, Bristol, West Hartford, East Hartford and New Britain which have recently made this service available to their residents.

For a full list of acceptable items and additional program information, please visit www.simplerecycling.com.  The program is available to residents with curbside recycling and will begin on June 4th, 2018.
