Torrington Police Chief to Retire

TORRINGTON CT – May 24, 2018 – Mayor Carbone today has announced that Torrington Police Chief Michael Maniago will be retiring from the Torrington Police Department effective June 16th, 2018 after 40 years of dedicated service to the City of Torrington. 

 

Chief Maniago joined the department in 1982 and held the ranks of Sergeant, Detective, Patrol Division Sergeant, Narcotic Sergeant, Detective Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain.  He was promoted to Deputy Chief in in 2004 and named Chief of Police in 2009.  In addition, Chief Maniago is a graduate of the FBI National Academy. 

 

“On behalf of the generations of citizens of Torrington, I wish to express our gratitude for the decades of service that Chief Maniago has given to our community.  Over the course Chief Maniago’s career, law enforcement has changed dramatically.  In these challenging times the demands on our police force are immense and the expectations on the leaders of the Department are vast.  Chief Maniago has met all expectations of accountability to his political leaders, his community and his employees, for inspiring leadership and effective management and for the public safety of the 36,000 people that live in Torrington.  Chief Maniago has risen to all of these challenges and managed to be ahead of the trends of today’s demanding social and political environment.  I have admired his ability to transform policing in Torrington to a model of servant leadership through his quality management principals.  Our Torrington Police Department is the pride of our city and the integrity of the Department is a model to which all departments should be held.”

 

Born in Torrington, I know that Mike took great pride in serving as Chief of Police for his hometown.  On behalf of all residents, I wish Chief Maniago my sincerest congratulations and best wishes for a happy and healthy retirement” said Mayor Carbone.
