What is the Torrington Assisted Medical Transportation Program?

The Assisted Medical Transportation Program is a dial-a-ride service provided by the City of Torrington Sullivan Senior Center to qualified seniors seeking rides to various medical facilities in the towns of Torrington, parts of Litchfield, Harwinton and the VA clinic in Winsted.

Rural Independent Transit Service (RITS)

The RITS Program provides rides to non-emergency medical appointments for the elderly and disabled to areas outside of the regions listed under “The Torrington Assisted Medical Transportation Program” such as, but not limited to, Yale New Haven or UConn Medical Center.

How can you use this service?

You can call 860-489-2580 as soon as your medical appointment is booked to reserve a ride.  The program will provide door-to-door service for you based on availability.

Who is eligible?

This service is available to people living in the towns of Torrington, Litchfield and Harwinton who are: Under 60 and disabled, 60 years of age or older, anyone who has difficulty ambulating, therefore limiting your ability to drive, or in need of a wheelchair lift.

Where can the van bring you?

The van will bring you to medical and dental appointments, physical therapy, cancer treatments, diabetes self-help classes, cardiac rehab and dialysis (any medically related appointment).

What is the charge for this service?

There is not a fixed charge for this service, however, donations are accepted and appreciated.  The donations help to defray the operating  costs for the program.  The suggested donation for a round-trip to medical, therapy appointments and the Wellness Rehab Program is $6.00 localy and $6.00/hour for trips outside our local area (RITS).  Kidney dialysis varies depending on the circumstances. These programs are funded in part through a grant made possible through the Older Americans Act from Western CT Area Agency on Aging, the City of Torrington, DOT Municipal Grant Program, NW Hills Council of Governments, client donations and fundraising activities.
