Board of Assessment Appeals

The Board of Assessment Appeals [BoAA] works on behalf of the town’s property owners who wish to dispute the assessment of their home or vehicle. The BoAA‘s unbiased decisions are achieved by deliberation using the information provided by the property owner while under oath. The BoAA is not part of the Assessor’s Office and functions independently from that office.

** Legal Notice** The Board of Assessment Appeals will be hearing appeals for 2023 Real Estate, 2023 Personal Property, 2023 Motor Vehicle and 2022 Motor Vehicle Supplemental assessments, in Room 311, Torrington City Hall, 140 Main Street, Torrington, on the following dates:  Monday, April 8th; Tuesday, April 9th; Wednesday, April 10th and Thursday April 11th.  Regular Motor Vehicle appeals can also be heard on Wednesday September 11, 2024.

All April hearings are by appointment only.  All residents of Torrington wishing to appeal their real estate, personal property, motor vehicle and supplemental motor vehicle assessments at the April hearings must file an application form.  The form will be available March 1, 2024 by clicking here or on the Assessor’s webpage or in-person at the Assessor’s Office at City Hall.  Once the completed application is received, a letter will be sent to the appellant’s address with the scheduled date and time of hearing.

DUE TO SCHEDULING PROBLEMS, APPOINTMENTS CANNOT BE CHANGED. 

An application to appeal assessment must be filed in the Torrington Assessor's Office on or before Wednesday, March 20, 2024, by 4:00 p.m.
