City Budgets - Public Participation in Lieu of Public Hearings

Special Joint Meeting, Monday, May 18th

The City Charter of Torrington, CT requires a public hearing be held prior to the Board of Finance adopting a budget and setting the mill rate.  However, due to restrictions on public gatherings, this year’s budget adoption process is being done through video conferencing that is accessible to the public.  On Monday, May 18th at 5:00 p.m., there will be a Special Joint Meeting of the Board of Finance and the Board of Councilmen to discuss the proposed City budget for the fiscal period from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021.  This meeting will be held through the on-line video conferencing program "Zoom".

Copies of the proposed city and board of education budgets can be found on the home page of city’s website at www.torringtonct.org.  You may also request that a copy of the budgets be emailed to you by contacting the City Clerk at (860) 489-2241 or city_clerk@torringtonct.org prior to the special joint meeting.

Despite the challenge of presenting a budget remotely and electronically, the City is eager to hear from its taxpayers and residents.  The public is invited to submit written comments and questions on the budget to city_clerk@torringtonct.org.
