Job Description: Torrington Parks and Recreation is seeking a qualified applicant to work as Facilities Attendant located at various facilities around the City.  The qualified candidate will be professional, possess good communication and interpersonal skills, and be available to be scheduled various shifts per week, 7 days a week, between the hours of 7:00am – 10:00PM. Facility Attendants work under the supervision of the Torrington Parks and Recreation Department. 

Examples of Duties: 

  • Open and close the facility.
  • Turn all lights on; turn on the heat if necessary; air conditioners if necessary.
  • Make sure the floors are swept, wet mop muddy areas.  Armory - Dry mop gym floor daily and in between activities as necessary.
  • In the winter, shovel the steps and walkways if necessary and put down sand.
  • Greet the person renting the facility.
  • Assist with any set up, tables, chairs, score clock, etc.  Make sure all tables and chairs are clean prior to use.
  • Make sure toilets are flushed and bathrooms are presentable.
  • Provide paper towels and toilet paper when needed.
  • Make sure the stairs are clear.
  • Empty trash cans when filled throughout the day.
  • Monitor those using the facilities at all times.  Check all areas of the building inside and outside throughout the event.  Only Parks and Recreation Staff are permitted in the following areas: offices, second floor at the Armory, or other restricted areas as noted.
  • Assist with any help in the kitchen should it be required.
  • Check the kitchen area and make sure the refrigerator is closed, and stove turned off at the end of the event. 
  • Check every door in the facility before locking it up.
  • Make sure air conditioners are turned off and the heat turned down.
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Make sure that all the public is out of the building before closing.  Check facility completely.
  •  Make sure the facility looks the same as how it was found. 
  •  Fill out time sheet and drop off to Park and Recreation office before Monday mornings.
  • Document any incidents and accidents as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is considered mandatory and is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications: 

  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to stand for entire shift and move through program space (indoor and outdoor).
  • Must be able to lift at least 30lbs.
