Hourly range = $26.8132 – 29.5628

JOB PURPOSE:

Entry-level position that primarily performs a wide range of maintenance and custodial work at the Water Pollution Control Facilities. Aids other assigned personnel as needed. This position is intended to be entry level and to train and become knowledgeable of the functions of the Water Pollution Control Authority.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

Maintains the interior and exterior of all buildings and grounds of Water Pollution Control Authority, i.e. mows and trims grass, rakes leaves, plows and shovels snow; performs all custodial work in all buildings; paints buildings and equipment; fire hoses down tanks; cleans rake house; drives plant vehicles; checks and maintains fluid levels in vehicles; cleans vehicles and equipment; assists in making repairs to facilities and equipment; picks up parts and supplies; draws and picks up samples and takes readings. Performs other work as assigned or as needed to ensure the most efficient operation of the Water Pollution Control Authority.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:   

Knowledge of general construction, maintenance and custodial work and tools, equipment and practices. Skill in the use of equipment and tools utilized in the operation and maintenance of the Water Pollution Control Plant; ability to perform heavy manual labor; ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

Graduation from high school, technical school or equivalency. Not less than two (2) years experience in buildings or grounds maintenance, custodial or unskilled laboring work. Nine (9.0) Continuing Education Units in the field of wastewater treatment. A State of Connecticut Class B driver’s license and obtaining a State of Connecticut Class I Operator certification is required within eighteen months of employment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, handle small items with fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, ability to define colors. The employee is required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and caustic chemicals. The employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
